BCIPA
Originally the Building and Construction Industry Payments Act 2004 (Qld) — the statutory adjudication scheme letting builders, subcontractors and suppliers recover progress payments quickly. Now operates under the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017 (Qld), though the term "BCIPA" remains in common use.
BCIPA originally referred to the Building and Construction Industry Payments Act 2004 (Qld). That Act was repealed and replaced in stages from 2018 by the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017 (Qld), which now governs the same rapid, low-cost statutory adjudication process. The term "BCIPA" is still widely used in the industry to refer to this regime. Under it, a claimant serves a payment claim, the respondent may serve a payment schedule, and unresolved amounts can proceed to adjudication. Strict timeframes apply at every step, and missing them can be fatal to a claim or defence.
